A typical day in the life of an Occupational Therapist, with insight provided by Adam Ferry and The OT Service.

Invacare has recently launched the Aquatec Pure Bidet, an electronic bidet toilet seat that fits directly to existing toilets offering a modern, discreet way of providing independence to individuals that require support with personal hygiene. The stylish and highly functional Aquatec Pure Bidet is currently the only electronic bidet in the UK market that has the mandatory Water Regulations Advisory Scheme (WRAS) approval and Class II medical device classification, but what exactly is WRAS and why does it matter?

Many electric profiling beds integrate the option of adjusting the tilt angle of the bed alongside adjusting various sections of the bed. Depending on which end of the bed is elevated, the tilt is usually referred to as either the ‘Trendelenburg’ position, or the ‘Anti-Trendelenburg’ position. These positions, which are named after German surgeon Friedrich Trendelenburg, have been used in a variety of medical situations since 1881.

When selecting a bed, ensuring that the height is suitable is very important to provide safety and comfort whilst getting in and out of bed. Although most electric profiling beds have height adjustment as standard, there is an increasing emergence of ‘low’ beds that offer lower entry height to assist with self-transfer and to provide enhanced safety.

Electric profiling beds are becoming increasingly common in domestic and residential environments as they offer various benefits for those with long-term health and mobility issues, as well as benefits for those that care for them.
